Short Movies: The finalists

The Competition - stories section of Heroes International Film Festival collected 2450 proposals.

For the Short Movie section, which has collected a selection of the best art short movies dedicated to independent authors and productions, there are six finalists:

 

Hashtag by Ben Alpi

Sci-Fi or Fantasy - USA, 2019, 15'

Synopsis: in a looming future where social media celebrities dominate our culture, X is the world’s supreme online icon— but how far must she go to hold on to her popularity? From her high tech studio apartment, X manages a virtual empire with the help of TE’A, an omnipresent artificial intelligence. Every moment of her day is a product bought and sold. She embodies the complete merger of culture and commerce. As X struggles to sustain her popularity, a corrupting virus invades her regulated existence and forces her to question her reality. When her perfect life is threatened, how can X know what's true, what's fake, and whether or not everything she's built will collapse?

Synopsis: a woman is imprisoned in a small cell for many years. She has to do a specific task repeatedly, all day and night. Her boss is a red digital timer that decides whether she rests or works. Will he ever get out of this nightmare?

Sentience by Guillaume Bierry

Synopsis:  an old lady and a robot, both frustrated of their physical conditions, choose to switch their bodies.

Moon drops by Yoram Ever-Hadani

Sci-Fi or Fantasy - Israel, Serbia, 2018, 16'

Synopsis: a factory worker assembles an enigmatic machine that produces liquid drops from the moonlight.

The haunted swordsman by Kevin McTurk

Sci-Fi or Fantasy - USA, 2019, 16''

Synopsis: a lone samurai and his odd companion, a cursed severed head, seek vengeance in a haunted world. From the director of the gothic horror The Mill at Calder's End, this handcrafted live-action short film uses groundbreaking puppetry and in-camera effects to tell an epic tale set in a world of demons and ghosts.

La fiamma by Giacomo Talamini

Sci-Fi or Fantasy - Italy, 2019, 20'

Synopsis: XVIII century. Winter is upon a tiny and remote mountain community. Young Elk, son of the village chief, suffers from an apparently incurable illness. As the adults leave the village looking for a remedy, Elk and a few other kids remain alone. Only then, a sinister entity emerges from their people’s legends and begins to torment them. A menace only Elk is prepared to face.
