Matteo Moriconi

Technologist and director

Matteo Moriconi is a technologist and director, co-founder of VFXRio, a festival affiliated with ACM Siggraph dedicated to fostering discussions about the ecosystem of transformative emerging visual technologies with socio-economic relevance in Brazil. VFXRio was founded in 2015 and its mission is to promote and develop the visual technology ecosystem, assisting companies, governments, and society in achieving sustainable social, technological, and economic development. Graduated in Chemistry from PUC-Rio, Matteo founded the Virtual Museum of Brazilian Art in 1997 a pioneering project that used the web for creative initiatives, collaborating with various Latin American artists in the creation of virtual works. During this time, he also collaborated with Peter Greenway during the "100 Objects to Represent the World" event in 1998 and with Jenny Holzer for the exhibition "Protect Me from What I Want" at CCBB in 1999, contributing to the development of interactive web projects. He has over 20 years of experience in the development of creative projects, including formative years in the technology groups of Walt Disney Company and Discovery Channel Europe. For years he has been dedicated to the promotion of new technologies and dissemination of knowledge. In 2018, Matteo contributed to the innovation curation of Rio2C, bringing to Brazil great artists, visionaries, and experts who think, live, and create technological innovation in the world.
